    Satechi 10-Port USB 3.0 Hub (9 Port USB 3.0 + 1 iPad Charging Port) 5 Volt, 5 Amp

    Details

The Satechi 10-Port USB 3.0 Hub adds nine additional USB 3.0 ports and one iPad-charging port to your PC or Mac. This allows you to connect and use USB devices such as digital cameras, external hard drives, flash drives, and printers, all from a single hub. The Hub is uniquely designed with three switches that control each group of three USB 3.0 ports; each group of three is lit with an attractive blue LED when powered on, as well as a separate LED for each port when a device is in use. Powered by USB 3.0 and providing data rates of up to 5.0Gbps, this 10-Port Hub is the ideal solution for transferring data between your computer and external USB storage devices. Equipped with a power supply, the Satechi 10-Port USB 3.0 Hub guarantees electric current stability and the effective operation of connected USB devices. It does not require any software, drivers, or complicated installation process. With the slim, strip-shape design the Hub saves your precious desktop space, and also adds style with a sleek, glossy finish. The 10-Port Hub is extremely portable and easy to move between systems or take on the road.

    iPad Charging
The 10th port, located on the end of the hub, is capable of charging your iPad and features an On/Off switch. iPads are typically unable to charge from a computer's USB ports, so the Satechi 10-Port USB 3.0 Hub provides unique functionality compared to similar hubs.
    Note
We recommend that no more than three external hard drives be connected to the 10-Port USB 3.0 Hub at one time. This will provide maximum efficiency of the 10-Port USB 3.0 Hub because it contains three chipsets (one chipset can operate one external hard drive efficiently). The three external hard drives should be connected to the first three ports on the hub (closest to the power source).

Expand your computer's existing USB 3.0 port to nine additional USB 3.0 ports

Tenth port is capable of charging your iPad

Testing speeds of up to 5.0Gbps with USB 3.0

Three switches let you control the power of three groups of USB 3.0 ports

Attractive blue LEDs and a glossy finish ensure the 10-Port hub looks great on any desk

    Equipped with a 5V 5Amp power supply

No, it is the GL3520 88PIN chipset. LegitReviews reviewed the hub and says this about the chipset: "The GL3520 hub controller was released in Q3 2011 and is Windows 8 hardware certified. Each Genesys Logic GL3520 USB 3.0 hub controller can achieve 0.9W power consumption with four downstream ports connected to SuperSpeed devices. 10 ports of luxury It's a great product. Out of the box I was very impressed with its design and how well it sits and glows on the desk.

8/10 overall. I am never impressed with the USB to Hub conncetion which is the same as those used for USB to portable HDD, they are small, thin and appear flimsyt and easily snapped. I will have to be gentle with it for sure.

I look forward to setting up all my devices on it though and have high hopes that it will be the best new addition to my workspace!

Will reccomend to friends :) Thanks Satechi!

Number of ports is great I really wanted only one USB 3 Hub that could handle my Mac Mini. With 2 printers, and four external drives + blu ray, I needed a single device that could handle them all. This was it.

Great for device organization It's pretty much what I expected, which is good. I'm using a MacBook Pro 2012 non-retina and this hub plays nice with all of my USB 2.0 and 3.0 devices, power and switches/lights all work, etc. It even maintains fast transfer speeds on some of my faster USB 3.0 devices like my Lexar Professional CF card reader - no difference in transfer speed between the Satechi hub and plugging directly into the computer. It looks pretty nice, too. The switches make it easy for me to organize different types of devices - I use my display hub and slower USB 2.0 devices on the first switch, high speed devices like the card reader and thumb drives on the second and backup/time machine drives on the third. If I don't need a device, I just leave the switch off - handy for devices that power on automatically when connected to a powered hub and don't have dedicated power switches. I haven't tested the charge speed of the dedicated tablet charging port (I don't have an iPad), but it charges my iPhone just fine. The hub is fairly lightweight, but has enough mass to stand up on my desk without needing the velcro tape.

Overall this is a really useful product and I recommend it for people who have a lot of peripherals, especially faster USB 3.0 devices - if you have only USB 2.0 devices, you can get the same sort of thing for a lot cheaper.

I'm taking a star off for the price - I don't have a problem paying for quality, but it's still a little expensive. Maybe something like $40 would've been more palatable. I'm in Canada, so the cross-border shipping inflated the price even more. But hey, I bought it and it works great, so no complaints otherwise.

Excellent product to clean up desktop clutter This 10-port hub does the trick with my new iMac with USB 3.0 ports. The iPad charger at the end works well. Although it does feel a little lightweight, I won't be using for mobile purposes.

Does it all Been through a number of cheaply made hubs that aren't as full featured as this one. With repeated use they always seem to wear out/fall apart. This is a great design and appears well built. I'd like it better if it was in a metal housing - but perhaps that would be cost prohibitive. In terms of function, this is first class.

Great Product, does what it is suppose to do Abundance of ports, 5 Volts, 5 Amps makes Hub appear to be just as fast as the 3.0 USB port on my laptop.

Data ports a flawless, flaky charging port I have a 2012 MacBook Pro with Retina Display. It has a measly two USB 3.0 ports. I had been waiting for a reliable USB 3.0 hub with a lot of ports (seven or more). Other USB 3.0 hubs had mixed reviews, but the Satechi 10-port hub garnered mostly positive reviews, and that was enough for me to pull the trigger and order it.

    First, the pros.

I like the power strip-like design. It allows for USB devices and cables to be connected with minimal entanglement. The three power switches for the nine data ports are a nice touch, although I do not have a use case that would necessitate a set of ports being powered off.

Currently, I have six ports occupied: Two external USB 3.0 hard drives, a printer, an Apple Cinema Display (to power its own three USB 2.0 ports), and a mechanical keyboard, which requires two ports, one of which is for the keyboard’s two USB 2.0 ports.

I was initially concerned I might run into issues with the USB 3.0 drives connected via the hub, as reviews for other hubs indicated issues with disconnections and sleep. My drives perform flawlessly with this hub. They are recognized at 5 Gb/s, and I get transfer rates at about 130 MB/s. I do not experience disconnects, and sleep is normal (the OS puts them to sleep and wakes them appropriately).

My other devices, including three devices connected to my monitor daisy-chained to the hub, function normally.

    Now, the cons.

I have my 3rd generation iPad connected to the charge-only side port (2.1A). The charging frequently stops, at which point I have to disconnect and reconnect the 30-pin iPad connector (or power cycle the iPad). I know the charging stops because the battery indicator on the iPad changes to “Not Charging.” I do not have this issue when charging with the same cable and AC wall adapter, or when connected to the MacBook or monitor (1A), so the problem is the charging port on the hub. Satechi support was very responsive and quickly sent me a replacement, but I have the same issue with the replacement hub. It is not a deal-breaker, but it was one feature that drew me to this particular hub.

Another con is that the hub is fairly lightweight and could be heavier for a more solid feel. Having a lot of devices and cables connected can cause the hub not to stay in place. A Velcro strip is included, but I would prefer a hub with some heft.

All in all, despite the deficiencies, I would recommend the hub.

With all products from Satechi, this 3.0 Hub is over the top with the iPad Charge Port It is wonderful writing a review for Satechi products... they truly are high quality, and look great too! Finally, I have an iPod charging port right where I need it. Bought one for my grand daughter who is starting college. This port will really be helpful in her dorm room. Great Job, Satechi!!!!!

Excellent product, superb look, versatile and efficient I love the 10 USB 3.0 plugs. Now, my 2.5" external drives are ON my desk. No need to knee under it and search for plugs in the dark.
I also find it very handy having powerful power supply with each USB plug. My drives don't disconnect any more.
This product is definitely user friendly!

Excellent Product - A Must have This nifty play and play gadget has been actually helped me in eliminating cables! My tower sits inside a computer desk and it has four USB ports in the back and one 3.0 in the front. I had to purchase USB extenders in order to have my speakers, printer, video camera, wireless mouse & keyboard, external hard drive, iPad 1G, iPhone 5, etc., all be able to sit on top of the desk since the cables were too short to reach. Oh did I mention I also had a 4-port hub in there somewhere too. The Satechi 10-port USB has been the answer to the mess of computers USB cords running every which way!

The idea of making the Satechi 10-port USB Hub resemble a small power bar makes it easier to follow what gadget the cable "belongs" to. The cable is not twisted and looped around other cables. Another great benefit is when the USB is in the use, the LED light underneath will be lit letting you know it is in use. This is great so if something is not working correctly you can tell if it has become lose or unplugged.

The iPad charging port is awesome to say the least. Since I was previously using the front 3.0 USB port on my tower to charge and sync my iPhone 5 and iPad 1G, it was a pain always changing charging cables since it takes a 30 pin and the lightning fast cable. I use the Satechi's 2.1A charging port to charge and sync my iPad now.

My home computer is now less cluttered and I have more space available since the bar sits nicely in the corner of my desk.

I highly recommend this for the person how has everything that connects, charges and syncs via USB.

    Let's get connected Test devices:
    Kindle Fire HD 7"
    Google Nexus 7
    ASUS Transformer (TF101)
    Cruicial M4 256GB SSD w/SIIG SuperSpeed USB 3.0 enclosure

"A hub is a hub," is how I've generally looked at such items. They work, or they don't, not much else to them. Satechi seems to have gone out of their way to change that idea. First off, this is probably one of the best looking hubs I've come across. Gloss black with blue back lighting around the port sections, switched banks, and a special charge port that should provide 2.1A of power instead of the standard .5A (USB 2.0) and .9A (USB 3.0, charge+data). Fairly nifty stuff, but how well does it work?

The first thing I tried out was the that special charging port. To be frank, at first glance, I was disappointed. Across each device, there was barely any noticeable difference in the charge rate. And what difference there was, was in favor of the other nine ports. But, but, but, how could that be? Each of them has a wall charger that exceeds the theoretical .9A output of a standard ports, usually by double (e.g. Kindle Fire charger is 1.8A output). Stupid thing doesn't work like it claims, right? "Not so fast," I told myself. Running back through the same tests with the wall chargers, what I found was that every port on the hub was able to charge my devices at the same rate as their wall chargers. I certainly can't complain about that, so no stars taken off.

Next up, data transfer speeds were tested. I linked up the Cruicial SSD and set to measuring. Compared to my USB 2.0 hub, the Satechi was substantially faster, which was to be expected. To see how far I could push it, I added four more Crucials and started running data not only back and forth between them and the PC, but also between each other. Pushing 1.5GB files around has not been quicker. The average speed barely changed, and could be simply margin of error. The hub itself held up to this treatment for over 24 hours before I left it rest for a while.

Final thoughts: I haven't quite figured out what I would use the switches for, but, I could see how they might come in handy in come applications, such as changing from one set of drives to another for backups or the like. At its current price, the Satechi brings more to the table, if nothing more than by having three extra ports. At this point, I can't see why one would be disappointed in purchasing one of these, unless of course they would prefer to have the lights off but the ports active.
