    After years of good service my halogen desk lamp bit the dust. Exploded actually. The heat of the bulb broke the glass cover. No more hot halogen lamps. I actually saw this Satechi described in the local newspaper. The styling caught my eye at first. Reading on, I thought the idea of dimming, a timer and - holy cow - a USB charging port got me more interested. But when I went to get more info it was sold out, both at Amazon and at Satechi's web site. I signed up to be notified when it was available and Satechi sent me an e-mail a couple days later.

    Although the lamp's exterior is a glossy plastic, it has substantial heft. The base is weighted to allow for the various angles the lamp can assume. This is very helpful. The lamp swivels at the base and at the lighted end. There are 4 basic light settings (LED) and multiple dimming settings for each. The charger worked quickly with my Android cel phone.     With enough power from bright-enough-for-reading to nightlight intensity, and from crisp, clean white light to fading-light-of-day "amberness", this lamp rocks. It's sufficiently weighted to that there is total stability even with the neck fully angled and extended. Love it, and have recommended it to my buddies. (Posted on April 9, 2013)

    This lamp makes a terrific piano light. Amply illuminates two large pages of sheet music. Stable base, sleek design, superior brightness, multiple configurations made possible by the pivots. Purchased a second one for use as a desk lamp. (Posted on March 21, 2013)

    The desk lamp was definitely a good buy but have not tried the smart phone charger. Review by Abhi

    I like the styling and functionality of the desk lamp. I have however not tried the smart phone charger yet.

    Not sure about the cost benefit since I did not shop around for an equivalent product but I am satisfied with the desk lamp. (Posted on February 18, 2013)
