Unfortunately, the Smart Trigger is not compatible with the iPhone 4 because the iPhone 4 does not support Bluetooth version 4.0. The Smart Trigger is currently only compatible with the iOS devices listed on the product page.

You do not have to place the receiver on the cameras hot shoe as long as the receiver is connected to the remote port on the camera. You may simply let it hang down.

I'm in photos now This product solved my problem of not being in photos. I was tired of setting a timer and running to get in the shot. I was never fully prepared when the shuttler went off. I ruined a lot of good shots that way. The product works as described, but the set directions need improvement. It took 20 minutes to figure things out. I'm able to play with it. But someone not so inclined would not be able to work it.

nice tool, almost perfect Great device, it is not only good as a remote control, it also adds two features that have been missing with my camera. The price is even slightly cheaper than the original Canon but the two additional functions are missing. The only drawback I see that the app has not been in various languages is available, but this should be supplemented so. Great work, keep going.

Great device and superior customer service Satechi's Smart Trigger Wireless Timer Remote is a great tool to help control the shutter functions of your DSLR camera. I first tested it with a Canon Rebel T3i, the Smart Trigger App and an iPhone 5. Keep in mind that this device will only work with the iPhone 4S or higher, iPad 3, iPad Mini, iPod Touch 5G, Samsung Galaxy SIII, SIV, and Note II. It paired easily and quickly. I was able to control it from well over 30 feet! It is made of plastic, but it feels sturdy and not cheap.

The manual is a must read to get the device to pair correctly with an iOS device. There are also some great how-to videos on YouTube on how to pair and troubleshoot your device if you run into problems.

There are three modes in the App:

Regular: This mode allows your device to act as a wireless shutter. All you need to do is touch the button on your device to capture a picture.

Manual: Allows you to take long exposures in bulb mode. Great for night shots and star trails.

Timed Shot: Converts your device into a intervalometer which is great for time lapse shots.

When attached to the hot shoe, my flash would not open. I then removed it from the hot shoe and let it hang down from the side of the camera and everything still worked fine as the connecting cable holds it firmly in place.

There is a slight lag between touch your devices screen and the camera's shutter release so it would not be a great choice for action shots and sporting events.

Satechi has a winner with the Smart Trigger. This is a great addition to my camera bag!

As Advertised. No hassles and Purchased this for Time Lapse on my 5D Mark II. An excellent alternative to the expensive Canon remote cable. It worked great right out of the Box.
Feeling rather experimental I was able to make a cable for this to work with my Medium Format Phase One System. It works just as good as the Canon.

The only limitations are related to the way the Camera MUST be set in order to receive reliable signals... like having to set the Canon to Single Image Drive when using Time Lapse and turning off the AF to avoid conflicts with stalled focus.

Overall, it's fantastic for the price.

Satechi Smart Trigger C I’ve only been using this for the past week, but I’m already in love with it. I connected my iPhone with it and went camping where I took time-lapse photos of the night sky. The photos came out great, except when I knocked into my tripod the first night, but that’s user-error :)

Great unit that functions well I ordered direct from Satechi for my Canon 60D and received the unit in a couple of days, well packaged. Good instructions. If I had paid attention, I wouldn't have had issues pairing it. But after following them, it works perfectly.

Have used in it all modes and flawless performance.

One thing that would be nice is there was a way to turn the app off and not have my IPhone 5 trying to find the camera when I get out of range and forget to close the app. That is a minor point.

I was impressed that after I placed the order and received confirmation, I also received an email with instructions and links to operation and troubleshooting.
I contacted support with a question and had an answer in a few hours.

    Great unit!
